When UFC Middleweight Dan Miller learned that he would be facing Bad Boy Fighter and renowned submission specialist Demian Maia, the first, and most recurring advice he received was “don’t go to the ground.”
Demian is used to this kind of response to his reputation. Only this time, he decided that he would turn a new page in his career by spending well over a month training with Luiz Dorea, boxing coach for both of the Nogueira brothers (Minotauro and Minotouro) and fellow Bad Boy Fighter Junior Dos Santos. Demian split his camp, training in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil at Luiz Dorea’s “Academia Champion” during the week and travelling back at home to Sao Paulo to train with his friend and head trainer Wagner Motta.
Demian’s training paid off. He controlled the pace of the fight from the beginning, pushing the action from center ring with a well-conceived stand-up strategy. Though a couple of takedown attempts failed in the first two rounds, Demian was content to bide his time, finding success in the third round. While Miller proved his defensive capabilities against Demian's ground game, they weren't enough to stop Demian's victory by Unanimous Decision.
Parabems Demian!
