Congratulations to Bad Boy Fighter Paulo Thiago, whose 2nd Round submission of Mike Swick at UFC 109 in Las Vegas, Saturday night, earned him “Fight of the Night.”
Swick was the third fighter from the acclaimed American Kickboxing Academy to face Paulo Thiago and the Special Operations Military Policeman from Brazilia proved once and for all that his hype is not based on some “Lucky Punch.” Throughout the short fight, Thiago slapped Swick’s punches and kicks away as though swatting flies. Thiago was caught only once by a punch, which he shook off and then Swick went for a takedown late in the first round, which went no where.
In the second round, Thiago fell into step easily with Swick and held his own during a flurry of strikes after the first 90 seconds. During the exchange, Thiago landed a counter right, just behind Swick’s ear, followed by a strong left hook that sent Swick to the mat. Thiago followed quickly, jockeying for ground position and finding himself with an excellent opportunity to sink a fight-ending d’arce choke.
Parabems Paulo!
